TELL US ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER.
Selena is young and middle class who falls in love with a girl, Kris, who is charged with murder. It looks like she’s left Kris to rot in prison but she finds a way to be with the love of her life. Selena knows that Kris will go to jail so she tricks the prison system and infiltrates Larkhall, having done intensive training for eight weeks to become a prison officer. It’s all very cloak and dagger stuff!
I think she is firm but fair. She is genuinely a good person and she is strong but not manipulative and calculating like some of the other characters. The extent to which she loves Kris really comes through. From an objective point of view, people would think she is absolutely mental doing what she does!
DO YOU LIKE HER?
I like her a lot. I like the fact that she follows her heart and that she is so strong. She wants something so she goes out and gets it. It’s quite a massive thing she tries to accomplish and she does.
ARE YOU LIKE HER?
Yes, she is intelligent and has a good sense of humour. She is very much in love and that is very important to her. I completely understand and sympathise with her.
HAS IT BEEN DIFFICULT JOINING A SERIES WHICH IS SO WELL ESTABLISHED?
I tried not to think about it, because I did not want to scare myself thinking about how many people watch it. I just wanted to think about what I had to do. Thankfully everyone’s been great and really welcomed me and Jen, who plays my partner Kris, to the show.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
I do oil painting - not professionally, but I have sold some of my work. I have not gone down the path of selling myself as a professional artist. I also like socialising with my friends. It’s hard to catch up with them because they are mostly actors so they are often working long hours.
ARE YOU REALLY A BAD GIRL?
I think we have all done naughty things at some point, so yeah, sometimes. But other times I am a very, very good girl. It changes from month to month and I have had my moments. I don’t have a criminal record, that’s the main thing.
