Keen to avoid solitary confinement, Shell soon has Neil convinced that she’ll be on her best behaviour and is back on G-Wing in no time. Old enemy Fenner has been thinking of ways to turn Shell’s reappearance to his advantage and has a business proposition to put to her—he’ll provide the punters if Shell provides the hand-jobs and they can split the cash. Although reluctant at first, Shell realises that the extra cash will come in handy when her baby is born.

Julie O’K and Al are getting ever more creative with their plan to endanger Di. The written threats have Di a bit flustered and as a result, when she finds that she is also being targeted by obscene graffiti in the PO’s toilets, the panic begins to set it. Convinced that the mystery Gnasher is after her blood, she takes refuge with her husband. Neil however refuses to take the threats seriously, but then his mind is more agreeably occupied by the prospect of spending yet another night away from home and in the bed of a man half his age.

Denny is hell-bent on getting her revenge on Snowball for causing Shaz’s death. Likewise, Shell is keen to have Denny back on side and sees doppelganger, Snowball, as a potential rival—so it’s not long before Shell comes up with a very nasty plan involving a can of hairspray and a cigarette lighter. But the plan fails when Yvonne hears Snowball’s screams and douses her flaming head in the toilet. Feeling let-down by Yvonne, Denny continues to put her faith in Shell and between them; they begin to make Snowball’s life a misery.

Things are going well for Barbara. Not only has Henry proposed, but her hearing, damaged by the blast in the library, has begun to return. However, she soon discovers that people say all sorts of interesting things when they think you can’t hear them—and when she realises that Snowball is up to something, Yvonne persuades her to stay ‘deaf’ for a few more days. It doesn’t take long for the plan to work. Snowball is convinced that it’s only a matter of time before she finds Shell and Denny lying in wait for her with a razor blade, and so she contacts Ritchie with the news that she will be escaping later that day. After informing Yvonne, Barbara uses Henry’s phone to contact Lauren.

Snowball finds Denny sitting by Shaz’s memorial and lets rip with a series of well-timed remarks that send her into a temper. Denny tears the rose-bush out of the ground and starts to hit Snowball with it, turning on Yvonne when she tries to intervene. As Denny and Yvonne are dragged off by POs, Snowball takes advantage of the mayhem to retrieve her gun and take Karen hostage. The gate-guards are at their incompetent best and allow her and Karen through the gates and into the car-park. As they drive off in Karen’s car, another car begins to tail them.

Sylvia and Bobby Hollamby’s undertaking business is about to collapse—a situation they try to remedy by leafleting hospices and nursing homes. When this doesn’t work, Bobby applies for a job at Larkhall, but his old-school values don’t appeal to progressive Neil. After his disastrous interview, Bobby realises that there’s only one way out and commits suicide by gassing himself in his hearse. Neil and Di make the tragic discovery and call Hollamby to the front gates. Frantically, she tries to administer mouth-to-mouth but it’s too late…Bobby is dead.
