HOW DO YOU SEE YOUR CHARACTER DEVELOPING THIS SERIES?
Well in this series, my character is still hard as nails and still horrible, but we do see a softer side to her in terms of love interests, so you see a softer edge to her, but that kind of turns mucky and she’s back to being a bitch.
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING IN BAD GIRLS?
Oh, there’s so many things. Working with all the cast and crew who are all wonderful. Being part of an award-winning drama. I could go on forever. I’ve settled down really well considering this is my first professional job, but that’s because of cast and crew. It sounds cheesey, but it really is a big family. I’ve been really lucky I think when I talk to other people about their past experiences on TV, to come to a set like this one.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?
She’s outspoken, and she says what she wants I suppose. But there’s not much I like about her at all.
WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?
Her violence. And she’s so inconsiderate, and so easily led as well, even though she’s so hard. She’s just a dodgy chick! She’s horrible.
DO YOU LIKE THE COSTUMES THAT YOUR CHARACTER WEARS? WOULD YOU WEAR THEM OUT?
No, I have one pair of trousers, and that’s it, my trainers which have a hole in them… some of my tops are not bad but otherwise I just look like a man. Which is good for the character because that is what she would wear, but otherwise… no way. Horrible. I just hate her whole appearance. It’s disgusting. I wear jeans and boots and stuff, but I do get dressed up when I go out, whereas she would never do that. She’d never wear a dress.
HOW DO PEOPLE RE-ACT TO YOU ON THE STREET?
I get recognised if I don’t wear make-up, but when I’ve got my make-up on I find I don’t get recognised. It’s flattering, but I don’t really like it. It’s a bit strange, people knowing you when you don’t know who they are. It’s weird.
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR CHARACTER? ANY TRAITS THAT YOU SHARE?
Well, we look a bit similar but that’s about it. That’s where they comparison ends. We’re both broad Scots, things like that, but there are no characteristics we share as a person. I’ve never been in a fight in my life. She has about one a week.
WHAT SCENE HAVE YOU MOST ENJOYED OR HATED FILMING SO FAR?
The scene I liked the most, even watching it and I don’t like watching myself on TV, was the fight scene with Linda [Henry]. That was amazing. It was probably the worst one to film though, it took so long, and it had to be so precise, so co-ordinated, but we ended up with bruises and it was so tiring. Hopefully the end result will look good though.
I had one a couple of weeks ago where I just had to be pure disgusting, and say ‘fannies and armpits’ and horrible things like that. It was a scene where we’re waiting for the tuck-shop and they’ve not got any deodorant and I say ‘We’ll end up smelling of sweet FA then – fannies and armpits’. It just made me gag. It just summed her up, she’s just minging.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NEW EXTERIOR?
Very impressed. I think it’s wonderful. But we can’t go to Oxford and have our usual piss-up!
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREETIME?
I do a lot of stuff with my flatmates, watch videos, go to the theatre, clubbing… I like going clubbing. Anything really, I like doing different things, going for weekends away and seeing different places. And I love going to the fair…
HOW WOULD YOU GET ON WITH YOUR CHARACTER IF YOU MET THEM IN REAL LIFE?
If I was to meet my character, I think she would really intimidate me. Although I knew she was just a big mouth, I’d still be scared of her. I’d like to do something to shut her up, but I don’t think I would. In a perfect world I’d have a go at her, but in reality I know I’d steer real clear. I’d find her frightening. Her appearance, for a start, and then the way she is, I’d think ‘Oh my God, mental…’
