| Jack
Punter who spotted Lou across a crowded strip-club. He bought her a drink and then tried to engage her in conversation, but she blew him out (s8ep1).
Jammie Dodgers
Scrummy biscuits with a raspberry jam filling beloved by generations of British children. They are also Darlene’s particular favourite. She kicked up an awful fuss when Paula Miles confiscated the packet she had brought into Larkhall with her (s6ep2), and then joined Janan Hamad’s rooftop protest purely because it afforded her the opportunity to scoff her way through Larkhall’s entire Jammie Dodger stockpile (s6ep4).
Janine
The nurse Nikki bribed into helping her escape from Larkhall for a night of passion with Helen (s2ep13).
Jealousy
Shell was very protective of her ‘relationship’ with Fenner, so much so she terrorised Rachel into suicide after becoming aware of their affair (s1ep4). Jealousy was the reason behind Shell’s incarceration. She kidnapped, tortured, and eventually killed the woman who ‘stole’ her boyfriend.
Nikki was afflicted by the green-eyed monster when Helen went out for a curry after work with Dominic. When he answered Helen’s telephone during a visit to her flat, Nikki went into orbit and her relationship with Helen was catapulted into complete meltdown (s2ep11). Nikki also got rather anxious when she met her new solicitor, Claire Walker, an old friend of Helen’s (s2ep11).
Di is probably Larkhall’s reigning Queen of jealousy and very nearly mucked up many a happy relationship. Crystal and Josh eventually wised up to her efforts to split them up (s2ep10), but Mark and Gina weren’t so lucky. Gina subsequently suffered a miscarriage after a locker room scrap with Di (s3ep14). Neil thought his marriage of convenience to Di was a great idea until he discovered she would go to any lengths to stop him seeing other men.
Jellies
Slang term for tranquillisers (see Tranquillisers).
Jenkins, PO
Idiot of a PO who allowed Fenner back into Larkhall when he was quite
clearly a gibbering mental wreck hell-bent on causing havoc. Once back
on G-Wing, Fenner went straight to Kris’s cell and beat her up before
weeing all over her (s6ep4). Jenkins was also duped by Fenner’s plan to
manoeuvre Neil into a compromising position with maintenance man,
Stuart Jones (s6ep9). Finally, he committed the heinous crime of
ordering Tina to “piss off” when she knocked on the prison gates in
search of Ben (s6ep12).
Jennings, Detective Constable
The police detective who interviewed Julie J in connection with allegations made against her and Julie S by Virginia (s3ep13).
Jill, Sister
One of the nuns who cared for Spencer Lindsey while his mum, Monica, was locked up in Larkhall. She had the unfortunate task of breaking the news of his death to Monica (s1ep8).
John
Sad old bloke who became one of Julie J’s regular Babes Behind Bars punters. When Julie J became broody, she and Julie S concocted a plan that involved a visit from John, a hand-job, and a yoghurt pot. Although he enjoyed the hand-job, John cottoned on to Julie J’s scheme when she dropped the yoghurt pot. The resulting fracas brought about the end of Babes Behind Bars (s2ep10).
Johnston, Julie
Along with her partner-in-crime, Julie Saunders, Julie J has become a permanent fixture on G-Wing. She’s usually dismissed as a soft-hearted divvy, although recently, her darker side has come to prominence. She meticulously planned and then executed Fenner’s murder (s7ep10 – ep11) in order to protect Julie S and to avenge Yvonne’s death. Haunted by the memory of the murder, she experienced a complete mental breakdown and was carted away to a secure hospital (s7ep12). After being diagnosed as suffering from bipolar disorder, a condition treatable with medication, she was cleared to be returned to Larkhall (s7ep13).
Read Julie J’s character profile.
Johnstone, Detective Constable
The police detective who investigated Shell’s assault on Fenner (s3ep2).
Jolly, Pam 'Podger'
A notoriously difficult prisoner, Pat spent much of her time at Larkhall dosed up on Lithium and howling at the moon from a cell on the Muppet Wing. To avenge Shell’s attack on Fenner, Hollamby conspired with Muppet Wing PO, Betty Wheeler and arranged for her to confiscate Pam’s medication. Wheeler told Pam Shell had stolen her pills and then pointed her out. Pam saw red and viciously laid into Shell (s3ep2). Later, Pam was diagnosed as suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and, after her illness was successfully treated, was transferred to an open prison (s3ep6).
Jones, Mr
The barrister who represented Charlie Atkins at his trial for handling stolen goods, demanding money with menaces, and supplying controlled drugs (s3ep5).
Jones, Stuart
Larkhall maintenance man who was blackmailed by Fenner and Di into entrapping Neil. Their plan was for Stuart to tempt Neil into the men’s toilets. Once inside, Stuart opened his trousers suggestively while Neil looked on. When PO Jenkins entered, Stuart accused Neil of trying to molest him (s6ep9).
