Maxi is on the verge of strangling Yvonne to death when Shaz lashes out with a well-timed karate kick. This enables Yvonne to turn the tables and she begins to strangle Maxi until Shaz manages to convince her that she isn’t worth doing life for. Denny is furious when she hears how Maxi set Shaz up and goes to confront her. As Al looks on in amazement, Maxi folds without a fight and promises to apologise to Yvonne on Shaz’s behalf. The following morning, Maxi informs the whole wing that the Peckham Boot Gang are finished.
Crystal goes into labour in the four-bed dorm and G-Wing’s tiniest inmate arrives in the form of baby Zandra, named after Crystal’s former cell-mate, Zandra Plackett. Buki reacts strangely to little Zandra’s birth and begs to be allowed to work on the MBU. Mark is sceptical, but when Buki hands over her stash of drugs, he starts to take her seriously. After Fenner turns Buki’s request down flat, Mark takes the issue over his head to Neil who gives his assent. On the MBU, Buki bonds with a baby boy called Baxter whose mother, Spike is a drug addict. Buki is devastated when she learns that both Spike and Baxter have AIDS.
Roisin is distraught when Aidan’s mother refuses to tell her where he and the children have moved to. Concerned, Cassie gets in contact with Mrs Connor and tells her that there’s a very real chance that Roisin will harm herself if she doesn’t hear from her family soon. Later, Roisin’s prayers are answered when Aidan comes to visit. Roisin thanks Cassie for getting involved, but when she tries to show her gratitude in a physical manner, Cassie pulls away. She’s now convinced that Roisin will go back to Aidan because she’s scared of losing her children. It does seem that Cassie has other fish to fry however—her canteen scam is proving to be a resounding success and she’s now spending almost all of her time with Yvonne.
Neil calls all of G-Wing’s POs into his office for a discussion about Fenner’s performance as Wing Gover. Although Di and the other seem eager to stick a knife into his back, Karen refuses to participate. Later, she goes to Fenner and reveals her concerns about the way Neil is treating him—maybe he should think about resigning. Fenner assumes that Karen is after his job and tells her to mind her own business. Later, Neil announces that he’s decided to demote Fenner. PO’s and inmates alike look on in amazement as Fenner responds by storming off the wing.
Mark turns up at the MBU to escort Buki back to G-Wing and discovers that she and baby Baxter have gone missing. A search is conducted and Mark eventually finds Buki cowering in a toilet cubicle with Baxter in her arms. Mark tries to talk Buki into handing Baxter over and is stunned when she reveals that she gave birth to her own baby boy in a public toilet at Kings Cross station. She was only thirteen-years-old and the baby was stillborn.
A concerned Karen does some detective work and discovers that Fenner is staying in a grotty bed-sit. She goes to visit him and ends up comforting him over a bottle of scotch. Before long, she and Fenner are lying on the bed kissing. Karen tries to put a stop to it when it looks like things are going too far, but Fenner refuses to take no for an answer.
