Episode 2.3 - Visiting Time

Written by Mark Wadlow

With Helen’s resignation and Fenner suspended, there is a job vacancy on G-Wing, and Karen Betts is fast-tracked by Stubberfield to become the new Wing Governor. Hollamby is disgusted by this turn of events and she and Dominic argue about Fenner’s guilt. This altercation is witnessed by Di Barker, a new transfer from H-Wing, who probably wishes she had stayed there! Back on the wing, love is in the air. Nikki has received a letter from Helen, and maintenance man, Josh has set his sights on Crystal.

With his marriage on the rocks, his career on the line, and now the police on his doorstep to question him about Shell’s allegations of assault, Fenner realises that he could well find himself behind bars. Forever the schemer, Fenner has already managed to talk Marilyn into standing by him, and so it is a relatively simple task to convince Hollamby to smuggle a letter onto G-Wing. Shell is thrilled with the letter and, despite Denny’s best efforts to convince her otherwise, she goes straight to Stubberfield and withdraws the charges against Fenner.

For Julie J the absence of her children makes life hard to bear. She hasn’t seen them since they were taken to America by her ex, so Julie S and Yvonne devise a way for them to visit their mum when they return to the UK for their grandfather’s funeral. As promised, Lauren Atkins delivers Martin and Rhiannon to Larkhall for visiting day. It’s a difficult visit for all of them, especially when Martin asks his mum if she’s a prostitute. Just when Julie is starting to make headway, Hollamby realises that the children are banned from seeing their mother because of a court order and hauls them away. Julie J is left distraught.

Now reinstated, Fenner pays Shell a visit and feigns affection to trick her into handing over the letter he sent. Shell falls for the act and hands it over. Now in the clear, Fenner shows his true colours and tells her that there is no way he would ever leave his wife for a slut like her. Later, Denny finds Shell sitting on the floor of her cell, literally pulling her hair out as she reflects on the fact that Fenner has taken her for a complete mug.

The women watch as the Julies vigorously apply floor polish to the top step of the stairs. Hollamby is immediately suspicious of the gathering, but as she climbs the stairs, she slips at the top. Before she realises what is happening, a firm shove sends her flying down the stairs. As Hollamby lies motionless on the floor, Karen rushes over to her. She looks up at the women at the top of the stairs who stare back at her defiantly.
