Mark arrives at work with some tragic news, Gina has lost their baby. He holds Di completely responsible and warns her that if she knows what’s good for her, she’ll stay as far away from him as possible. Josh also has news. He’s received a video tape from Denny in which she admits that Shell set Crystal up. Along with a good character reference from Karen, this could be enough to get Crystal off. But then Karen finds out about the theft of Hollamby’s anniversary present, and without her testimony, Crystal’s defence crumbles and she is sent straight back to Larkhall. Josh can’t believe that Crystal could lie to him like that and tells her that he wants nothing more to do with her.

After witnessing Thomas and Helen sharing a kiss in the corridor, Fenner almost falls over himself in his haste to inform Nikki that they are an item. Nikki is crushed, but what really hurts is the fact that Helen didn’t have the guts to come clean herself. Now even more determined to nail Fenner, Helen goes to ask Yvonne to lean on Virginia for information about Fenner’s next collection. Later, Helen finally hits the jackpot when she sees Fenner’s car parked outside one of the massage parlours. He tries to tough it out when Helen confronts him, but when she threatens to tell Karen about his secret assignations with “massage parlour tarts”, he caves in and agrees to hand in his resignation the following morning.

Maxi is beginning to get jealous of Tina’s unlikely friendship with Virginia. Suspecting that there’s more to Virginia’s disability than meets the eye, she orders Al to sit up on the G2 landing with a bucket of water. When the bucket is dropped, Virginia leaps out of her wheelchair, showing amazing dexterity for someone who’s lost the use of her legs! Her subsequent claims of a holy miracle are rubbished by the other inmates, all of whom have been bending over backwards to help her. As threats ring out around the wing, Virginia is placed on cellular confinement for her own safety.

Fenner has a plan to oust Helen before she can get rid of him and recruits Di to help him. He’s convinced that Helen is having an affair with Nikki, but a search of Helen’s office unearths nothing more sinister than crumpled nurse’s uniform in one of her filing cabinets. A search of Nikki’s cell is more productive and, after he and Di find a bus ticket dated the night that Shell attacked him, Fenner decides that it’s time to go and look for Barbara’s diary – if anyone would know about Nikki’s love life, it’s her ex cellmate.

Fenner finds the diary hidden inside the lid of the chapel piano stool and, with the help of Di, manages to crack Barbara’s code. They work out that Nikki escaped on the evening of Hollamby’s anniversary party dressed as a nurse. Fenner goes straight to Helen’s office and confronts her with the bus ticket and Barbara’s diary. Although she denies everything at first, Helen crumbles when Fenner asks her about the nurse’s uniform that is hidden in her filing cabinet. The tables have been turned and Fenner is now the one demanding that Helen resign.
