Hollamby is over the moon that Fenner is the new Wing Governor, although the sight of Karen back in uniform seems to please her more. Meanwhile, Di and Barry have a huge announcement to make: they’re getting married! Di might be on cloud nine, but Shaz and Barbara know that Barry is not always the charmer that he seems. Shaz takes the earliest opportunity to goad him into violence, but Barbara is present and he is forced to settle for putting her on report. Angered by the failure of her plan, Shaz smashes her nose against the wall and accuses Barry of punching her. But when Barbara admits that she didn’t see the alleged assault, Barry is cleared of any wrongdoing.
Fenner is keen to take his relationship with Maxi to the next level and has her brought to his office. Just as she’s unzipping his trousers, Maxi reminds Fenner that she’s already done him one big favour by killing Virginia and then watches with amazement as his ardour cools dramatically. Fenner panics, realising that this time, he’s bitten off more than he can chew, and decides to make every effort to avoid Maxi in the future. Maxi responds by demanding that she and Al be moved up to cells on G3, if not, she’ll start spilling the beans. There is one small problem though, Neil has taken an instant dislike to Maxi and overrules the move.
Neil continues his efficiency drive. He’s so impressed with Hollamby’s running of the canteen that he decides to order her a brand new computer to help with the accounts. Although Hollamby has been successful when it comes to increasing the canteen’s profits, she has absolutely no idea when it comes to technology and is forced to recruit Barbara to do the work for her.
Shaz, the Julies and Barbara conspire to cancel Di’s wedding. Barbara types up a cancellation letter on Hollamby’s computer and Shaz arranges for it to be smuggled out and posted. On the day of the wedding, they phone the registry office to confirm the cancellation. Barry and Di are shocked when they discover that their appointment has been cancelled. Barry immediately suspects that the cancellation is the work of the inmates and flips out, vocally humiliating Di before storming off. He’s still angry when he returns home that evening and takes it out on Di.
The Julies are worried by Yvonne’s defeatist attitude and vow to do everything they can to prove her innocence. They cover one of the corridor walls with graffiti, proclaiming Yvonne’s innocence and naming the true culprits – Maxi and Al. Yvonne is encouraged, especially when she realises how worried Fenner is. Fenner is still reeling from the shock of discovering that Yvonne did not murder Virginia as he thought. With nowhere else to turn, Fenner and Yvonne find themselves forced to form a distinctly uneasy alliance.
