Phyl and Bev take the phrase ‘open’ prison a little too literally, by missing their curfew and heading to the most expensive restaurant they can find. When Phyl’s bogus credit card is refused, they manage to wrap the young waiter around their little fingers, promising that they will go straight home and arrange to have some cash biked straight over. Meanwhile, the alarm has been raised by Barkwith Hall and Phyl and Bev leave the restaurant only to walk straight into the arms of the police.
Fenner gets Tina’s pictures developed but is in for a shock when he doesn’t see the picture of Yvonne he expected. Karen, who is in the receipt of a totally different set of photographs, wastes no time in calling Tina to her office and asking her to sign a statement of sexual assault against Fenner. She then goes to Neil with all of the evidence she’s collected against Fenner. She’s all for suspending Fenner immediately, but Neil insists that they hang fire until he’s had time to write a report. Karen can’t understand why Neil is playing for time and decides to take all of the evidence she’s collected straight to Area in the morning.
Already stinging from Colin’s rejection, Di goes into orbit when she discovers that Karen might not be leaving Larkhall after all. As far as Neil’s concerned, the only person keeping her from the Wing Governor’s job is Fenner – it’s not Neil’s fault that Karen has gathered a dossier of irrefutable evidence against him. Fenner is beginning to realise that something strange is going on when he notices that Colin is up and down to the Governor’s office like a yo-yo. He doesn’t realise how much trouble he’s really in until Di takes him to one side and tells him what Karen is up to.
Al meets with her solicitor for her upcoming murder trial. When her solicitor scratches beneath the surface to uncover a traumatic childhood, there could be a way to get her off the murder charge. But can Al confront the past in order to save her future? Barbara and Henry’s future is also hanging in the balance. Now that Barbara has lost her early release date, there doesn’t seem much point in continuing to plan a wedding that may be ages away. But Henry is unable to wait. He decides to resign and then ask for special permission for them to get married in the prison chapel.
While Karen is in the shower, Fenner breaks into her flat and examines all of the evidence she has collected. Deciding he must take action, he steals the evidence and then sneaks out of the flat with Karen’s car-keys, coat, and a bottle of whisky. Now wearing make-up and a blonde wig, Fenner takes to the streets in Karen’s car and knocks down a pedestrian. After ditching the car, he leaves the now empty bottle of whisky on the front seat.
New PO Selena Geeson, starts work at Larkhall and succeeds in getting a posting on the lifers’ unit. It’s an eventful first day for Selena who processes the returning Costa Cons through reception and then witnesses the police turning up to arrest the Wing Governor. The police have found Karen’s car and have reason to believe that it was used in a fatal-hit-and-run incident. Karen accuses Fenner of setting her up, but he just watches in smug silence as she is arrested and dragged off the wing.
