Its six weeks since the end of the last series and Fenner is having nightmares as his mind re-traces the steps deep into the bowels of the prison. All he can hear are the cries of Yvonne Atkins – will he keep his cool? The whole of G-Wing is buzzing with rumours of Yvonne’s escape. Di however is not amused. Yvonne’s disappearance has brought her management of the wing into question. She suspects that the chop will come, but she’s desperate to avoid it. Little does she know that Fenner is already sneaking to Neil behind her back; Di has more than proved her incompetence and if anyone deserves her job, it’s him.
Two new faces arrive on the wing in the form of sassy prostitute Frances Allen and nervous first-timer Natalie Buxton. Natalie looks like butter wouldn’t melt, but it soon becomes clear that someone suspects her of having a darker side when an incriminating newspaper clipping is pushed under the Julies’ cell door. As soon as they hear that there’s a nonce on the wing, the women are lining up to take a pop at Natalie. With only Frances’s tough presence keeping her out of harm’s way, Natalie has no choice but to hire her services as a permanent bodyguard.
Bev is having problems now that she’s swapped her safe old gin bottle for the full strength hit of heroin. Phyl, is disgusted by Bev’s habit, especially because she’s smoking her way through their accumulated stash faster than she can sell it on. Meanwhile, Selena has secretly cut keys so that Kris can follow Yvonne’s route out of the prison. After evading the POs, Kris inches down the dark corridors towards the hanging cell. Finally, she opens the last door, but instead of the exit she was expecting, she finds a brick wall and Yvonne’s decomposing body. In the panic, Kris drops her keys down a grate and is unable to retrieve them.
Natalie is taken for a visit with her boyfriend and business partner Paul, but the police swoop and find a packet of cocaine in his jacket pocket. On her way down to the block, Natalie offers Frances £10,000 to make a phone call for her. On the outside, the police raid on a warehouse and find a lorry containing young children. Natalie is stunned when the police arrive to arrest her for trafficking illegal immigrants, but that’s nothing compared to her horror when she discovers that Frances All is actually ex Detective Inspector, Frances Myers! But this isn’t the only ace Frances’ is hiding up her sleeve and G-Wing’s officers are appalled when they discover that she is their new Wing Governor! And if that wasn’t bad enough, what Frances has seen of her officer so far is enough to get them all sacked.
There is a panic on the wing when Kris is discovered missing, but she is later found in a corridor. Sickened by her discovery, she vomits on the floor. Selena is shocked when she hears about Kris’ discovery, especially when she is told that the door Yvonne was imprisoned behind was locked from the outside. Kris is sure that she was murdered and that Fenner is responsible. She urges Selena to ‘discover’ the body and find the missing keys. After a failed attempt to retrieve the keys, Selena takes her grisly discovery to Neil. The police are called and a forensic team are soon searching and photographing every inch of the scene.
As Colin injects himself with another hit and the women of G-Wing mourn the loss of their friend, Fenner wakes from yet another nightmare. This time, he is the one trapped and pleading for his life.
