PLEASE TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER.
Selena is firm but fair – she is seemingly hard working and serious about her job but actually she is more calculating than she lets on.
WHY DOES YOUR CHARACTER CONTINUE TO WORK ON G WING?
She is sustaining a relationship with her girlfriend Kris Yates who is banged up on the G Wing. She deliberately got a job so she could be with her. But as no one in the prison knows most of our scenes are illicit stolen moments together.
DO YOU RESPECT YOUR CHARACTER AND THE WAY SHE OPERATES?
Yes, I do I think she is fair and that is very unusual compared to the other G Wing staff!
ARE THERE ANY SIMILARITIES BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR CHARACTER?
Yes she is passionate, romantic and committed to what she believes in.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE AND DISLIKE ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER IF YOU WERE INTRODUCED IN REAL LIFE?
I think I would like her but I think I would quickly get frustrated that she doesn’t show enough humour – she is always a bit too serious.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE A KEY FACT ABOUT THE CHARACTER YOU PLAY WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
I would definitely make her have more of a laugh!
DO YOU THINK YOUR CHARACTER HAS CHANGED SINCE BEING INVOLVED WITH G WING?
Yes, I think she has become more serious and involved with politics and the machinations of working in Larkhall. I think their relationship was more fun before they both ended up there.
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION OF THE CURRENT PRISON SYSTEM AND HAS HAVING THIS ROLE IN BAD GIRLS CHANGED IT?
I feel that there could be even more emphasis on rehabilitation and education than there is – but my role in Bad Girls has not changed this view.
WHAT’S THE WORST THING YOU’VE EVER BEEN CAUGHT FOR?
I was caught drawing graffiti in the school loos!
WHAT’S THE WORST THING YOU DID BUT DIDN’T GET CAUGHT?
Smoking in the school loos!
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE LAW?
No I haven’t.
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING INVOLVED WITH BAD GIRLS?
The experience of playing Selena with such a variety of different characters all around her plus all the exciting and dramatic storylines I get to be involved with. It is a fabulous job.
WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY THINK ABOUT YOU BEING IN THE SHOW?
They are mostly very pleased for me!
HAVE YOU FILMED A MEMORABLE SCENE YET?
I was very nervous for the first kissing scene with Jenny Ness who plays Kris Yates - as it was very early at the start of the job and we had to kiss passionately. In fact, we were both very nervous – I think I acted like a wooden block as my arms seemed stuck to Jenny’s shoulders for the entire scene!
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
I do oil painting and I enjoy going to the cinema, the theatre and the gym.
DO YOU ENJOY LUXURY HEALTH AND BEAUTY TREATMENTS?
Yes I love all of them. I love a bit of pampering.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE WAY OF PAMPERING YOURSELF?
Going to the gym then having a massage and facial afterwards then maybe going to the pub!
IF YOU WERE BANGED UP FOR REAL AND HAD TO MAKE THE MOST OF IT, HOW WOULD YOU TRY AND SPEND YOUR TIME?
I think studying possibly for a degree in History or English. I would hope I would try and walk away with something positive.
IF YOU HAD TO SPEND A FEW MONTHS IN PRISON FOR REAL – WHAT APART FROM YOUR GENERAL FREEDOM WOULD YOU MISS THE MOST?
The contact with my family and friends I would find not having that very hard.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE FILM/BOOK/TELEVISION DRAMA THAT WAS BASED ON PRISON LIFE?
I loved Bangkok Hilton when that was on.
PRIOR TO BAD GIRLS WHAT ROLE WERE YOU MOST WELL KNOWN FOR?
Mostly theatre parts.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST PROFESSIONAL ACTING ROLE?
Doing two plays at the Salisbury Playhouse in Salisbury.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST EVER JOB?
I used to work in a clothes shop.
