Series 6 Cast Interviews
Jack EllisJack Ellis

PLEASE TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER.
He is a nasty piece of work. But he’s a lot of fun to play as he is always up to no good. He can be very cruel.

WHY DOES YOUR CHARACTER CONTINUE TO WORK ON G WING?
He gets off on the power and he loves having so much control over the women.
He loves women.

DO YOU SYMPATHISE WITH YOUR CHARACTER OR DO YOU RESPECT HIM?
I love him! For all the wrong reasons – as he is just so wicked! No not really – he’s devious and devilish. Therefore great fun to play – he does make me laugh.

ARE THERE ANY SIMILARITIES BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR CHARACTER?
Oh yes of course!! That’s why I have to travel in from prison every day!

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE AND DISLIKE ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER IF YOU WERE INTRODUCED IN REAL LIFE?
I would dislike his smarmy smile his rudeness and his sexual innuendo and I would like… mmm nothing actually – he is horrid!

IF YOU COULD CHANGE A KEY FACT ABOUT THE CHARACTER YOU PLAY WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Nothing he’s just fine as he is.

DO YOU THINK YOUR CHARACTER HAS CHANGED SINCE BEING INVOLVED WITH G WING?
Yes I think he’s progressively got worse and worse. But I think in this series you will start seeing he does get some come-uppance.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION OF THE CURRENT PRISON SYSTEM AND HAS HAVING THIS ROLE IN BAD GIRLS CHANGED IT?
It’s appalling – the overcrowding, the understaffing – the whole penal system needs looking at.

WHAT’S THE WORST THING YOU’VE EVER BEEN CAUGHT FOR?
I once tripped the staff up at school with a trip wire outside the staff room door when they left after their break. I thought it was hilarious at the time.

IF YOU COULD INFLUENCE/INSTIGATE OTHER METHODS OF CORRECTING, PUNISHING OR PREVENTING CRIME - WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
I would legalise drugs. I’m not being flippant. I seriously believe that if we medicalise all hard drugs – we can therefore give the control to the medics who can also supplement with counselling and proper treatment – very much like the AA Programme. Drugs are a huge problem and by it all being underground it means people don’t get the proper help once addicted.

DO YOU THINK YOU COULD ONE DAY FIND YOURSELF UNDER ARREST?
Oh yes I’m sure I might one day get arrested – or am I just thinking like Jim today!

WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING INVOLVED WITH BAD GIRLS?
The women! No seriously, it’s a fabulous cast and just a wonderful place to come to work.

ARE THERE ANY DIFFICULTIES BEING INVOLVED WITH SUCH A HIGH PROFILE SHOW? No not really it’s all fun!

WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY THINK ABOUT YOU BEING IN THE SHOW?
My brother Robin who played Poldark said “I played a goodie compared to you as Jim - you are a real baddie” – I wonder what mother would have thought!

HAVE YOU FILMED A MEMORABLE SCENE?
I once ate Claire King’s earring when snogging her. And in this series I do something very ‘revealing’ on the wing. The cast had no idea how much of me would be on show – and they were certainly surprised when they saw me.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
I watch Arsenal – Thierry Henry is a great player. I also play a bit of cricket. I have fun with the kids - usual family stuff.

DO YOU ENJOY LUXURY HEALTH AND BEAUTY TREATMENTS?
I do actually like acupuncture.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE WAY OF PAMPERING YOURSELF?
I love reading a good book in a warm climate – pure bliss.

IF YOU WERE BANGED UP FOR REAL.. AND HAD TO MAKE THE MOST OF IT.. HOW WOULD YOU TRY AND SPEND YOUR TIME?
I would try and get out.. I would be scared shitless!

IF YOU HAD TO SPEND A FEW MONTHS IN PRISON FOR REAL – WHAT APART FROM YOUR GENERAL FREEDOM WOULD YOU MISS THE MOST?
My family are so important to me and I would really miss them.

HAVE YOU EVER FELT IMPRISONED – EMOTIONALLY OR PHYSICALLY?
Of course – I’m an actor!

MANY FILMS/BOOKS/DRAMA HAVE BEEN BASED ON PRISON LIFE. DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE?
I love the film Shawshank Redemption and I also enjoyed watching Porridge.

PRIOR TO BAD GIRLS WHAT ROLE WERE YOU MOST WELL KNOWN FOR?
I was DI Muddiman in Prime Suspect and Eddie Barton in The Knock.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST PROFESSIONAL ACTING ROLE?
I was acting ASM in the Manchester Library Theatre and Rex in City Sugar.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST EVER JOB?
I used to do a paper round.

DO YOU HAVE A GOOD STORY ABOUT A PREVIOUS ROLE/JOB?
I once ran away from home and worked in a wimpy bar! And I was offered the job of Manager of Oddbins - great for a non drinker!

WHAT IS YOUR STAR SIGN?
Gemini

AND DO YOU BELIEVE IN THINGS LIKE THIS?
I do a bit!

WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
St Thomas’s Hospital Westminster, London.

WHERE WERE YOU BROUGHT UP?
Hampstead Gardens suburb and then Pinner and have lived mainly in and around North London.
