REMIND US WHAT HAPPENED TO JANINE AT THE END OF LAST SERIES:
In the last series Natalie picked on Janine because she was one of the weaker inmates and there wasn’t a lot Janine could do about it. Janine was also writing a book with Darlene but I’m not sure what ever happened to that!
THIS SERIES WILL NATALIE STILL MANAGE TO BULLY JANINE?
Natalie still bullies Janine this series, though Pat Kerrigan is now stepping in and looking out for her, which really annoys Natalie. Janine also gets quite lonely; she finds out her mum has died and her dad and brother don’t want to know her, so she very much feels she is on her own now and very depressive. And Natalie takes advantage of this.
JANINE DOESN’T SEEM TO BE PARTICULARLY CLOSE TO ANY OF THE INMATES - WILL SHE GET CLOSER TO ANYONE IN THIS SERIES?
Janine and Darlene are good mates this series – they look out for each other. Neither of them are very intelligent but they get on well. Janine also likes the look of new PO Donny Kimber and doesn’t waste anytime flirting with him. And she is really excited when he flirts back.
WHAT IS ON THE CARDS FOR JANINE THIS SERIES?
Janine goes through it all this series – depression, love, drugs, a breakdown – you name it, Janine does it!
DO YOU THINK HAVING A LOVE INTEREST CHANGES JANINE AT ALL?
Janine doesn’t have any family she can rely on so grabs at the chance when Donny starts to show some interest in her. I think it gives her self esteem a boost and she believes she does have a purpose when someone cares about her.
DO YOU SYMPATHISE WITH YOUR CHARACTER OR HAVE RESPECT FOR THE WAY THAT THEY OPERATE?
Janine and I are very different people and have gone down very different paths so I don’t have much sympathy for her.
DO YOU SHARE SIMILAR PERSONALITY TRAITS WITH YOUR CHARACTER?
We aren’t similar at all – Janine likes to get dolled up and that’s not me at all. We couldn’t be more different.
IF YOU MET YOUR CHARACTER IN REAL LIFE, WOULD YOU GET ALONG WITH THEM?
I don’t think I would get along with Janine if I ever met her. We are very different people and have very different interests.
DO YOU THINK THAT TIME IN LARKHALL PRISON WILL CHANGE YOUR CHARACTER IN ANY WAY?
Now that Janine has met Donny, she really wants to turn her life around and be able to give their relationship a chance, which she can’t do whilst she’s in prison. So she’s trying to make the best of her bad situation.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE STORYLINE OF THIS SERIES SO FAR, INVOLVING YOUR CHARACTER?
Shooting the scenes for Janine’s mum’s funeral was really good – it was great to show some real emotion, because Janine rarely does that. It was also nice to shoot on location for once!
IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO CHANGE THE CURRENT PUNISHMENT SYSTEM, WOULD YOU?
If I had the power I would give bigger sentences to child abusers.
ARE YOU INVOLVED WITH ANY CHARITIES?
I am involved with Haven House, Cancer Research and Princes Trust.
WHAT ARE THE BEST AND WORST THINGS ABOUT BEING INVOLVED WITH BAD GIRLS?
The best parts would be working with such a good cast and crew and the worst is getting stuck in the Blackwall Tunnel to and from work.
BAD GIRLS THE MUSICAL HAS JUST DONE A RUN IN LEEDS. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT MOVING FROM THE SMALL SCREEN TO THE STAGE?
I think it is a brilliant idea, especially because my friend Laura Rogers was in it.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
The shooting schedule has been really manic this series so I just try and chill out whenever I can.
IF YOU WERE IN PRISON FOR REAL, HOW WOULD YOU MAKE THE MOST OF TIME?
I would catch up on my sleep!
WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND BROUGHT UP?
London.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW?
London.
